Bellbrook, New South Wales

Bellbrook image

Bellbrook was named in 1882, after the local bellbirds along Nulla Nulla Creek. A farming community rich in history and nature surrounds the village itself, being classified by the National Trust. Cedar cutters and timber getters settled the area, and today their legacy has been lovingly preserved in this historic township which is still dominated by the original timber buildings along the wide main street. The township is heritage listed as it is an excellent example of an early 1900’s timber getting town. It's also a must for all country music fans is a visit to the old mountain village of Bellbrook, about an hour’s scenic drive up river from Kempsey. Arguably the birthplace of Australian country music, Bellbrook is the childhood home of country music legends Slim Dusty and his mate Shorty Ranger. You can still visit and enjoy the old world charm of Slim’s original homestead nearby. It’s not hard to see where these musical talents drew their inspiration. Bellbrook Cabins has comfortable accommodation and Bellbrook is a great place to fish, canoe. There is a tennis court and barbecue area and is a great base for four wheel drive trips. Bellbrook is surrounded by incredible natural beauty. Babbling clear creeks and deep valleys, thick timber forest and the distinctive call of bellbirds are examples of what this beautiful region has to offer.
