About Us

Maintaining/keeping cultural values

- teaching our children the values of respect and to learn about their culture as most of them were born and raised in Australia.

- share our culture to the Mackay and Whitsunday community through Multi-cultural events and learn from other cultures to be able to co-exist and work together in harmony.

Participating and supporting the Mackay community

- volunteering to any crisis that my arise in the community

- maintaining a safer community by reporting any suspicious activities

Provide cultural awareness to people from Kiribati who are new to the country.

- A large population of Kiribati people work on Hamilton and Hayman island and our Kiribati community has supported them for translation purposes when admitted to Base hospital or when in need of accommodation. Most of them do not have families here and the community does reach out to support them when needed.

Advocating for Human Rights and Climate Change

- coming from a country facing fear of disappearing in 50 years has motivated our community to be advocates for climate change and human rights that we should be allowed to migrate with dignity if our country was to

  disappear under water.

Fundraising

- our fundraising will be supporting our major events e.g Independence Day Celebration, Fathers and Mothers Day, New Year Celebration, and also travel expenses to any event or function we attended to showcase our

culture and also to promote the effect of climate change and Human rights. Most of the upcoming events will be posted on our Facebook Page "Mackay Whitsunday Kiribati Association".

- fundraising will be food stall - selling Kiribati delicacies and also other hot meals.
