About Us

The Health Team at Girudala assists individuals and groups to adopt healthy behaviours that maintain and improve the overall health and wellbeing of all residents in the communities of Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine. This is done by conducting health awareness information sessions, community displays, school and community health promotion programs and health screenings.

services include:

  • Nutrition: Our Nutrition Promotion worker can offer practical advice for budgeting and shopping for healthy meal plans. We also run community healthy lifestyle programs that encourage exercise and track progress over a period of time. Contact nutrition@girudala.com.au for more information.

  • Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs support: Our ATODS worker can work with individuals and families who are concerned about their own or a loved one's drug or alcohol use. We can help with rehab placements and referrals to clinical support. Our ATODS program also runs a Support Group every Monday night for the families and loved ones of "Ice" users.   • Sexual Health: Our Sexual Health Promotion worker can provide information about and support with dealing with sexual tramsmitted diseases - as well as practical information about contraception. We can make referrals for clinical appointments and can act as a support person to attend these appointments. For more information you can contact lprise@girudala.com.au
  • Sport & Recreation: Our PCYC Sport and Recreation Officer runs promotion programs in the community - encouraging people of all ages and abilities to lead more active lifestyles. We run movement sessions at our elderly social support group meets and at Flexicare regularly - we also run school activities across the region. Girudala sponsors a touch football team and a youth boxing program in Bowen. For more information on these programs contact sportnrec@girudala.com.au
  • Youth Health: Our Youth Health worker aims to improve and maintain the overall health and wellbeing of youths across our region by delivering  fun actvities within the schools and via individual participation at Girudala. The key aim is to engage, educate and involve individuals in the community, so that they can take control of their health and improve their quality of life.   • Indigenous outreach workers: To qualify as a client of this program you need to meet the following criteria:
    • Indigenous
    • diagnosed with a chronic illness by your GP/Specialist
    • Your GP must complete a Girudala IOW referral form and send it to us
    If you have a dependant child that fits these requirements you can also register them for our services.
    What services we provide through this program:
    • Advocacy and support at medical appointments
    • Transport to appointments
    • Advocacy and support for further referrals
