Health Checks

Health Checks are about looking at a person’s physical, and social emotional wellbeing condition and ensuring they live healthy and longer lives. Health Checks also assist in identifying risk factors for chronic diseases.

A Registered Nurse, Indigenous Health Worker and General Practitioner will conduct basic observations such as:

• Height, weight and temperature
• Ask questions in regards to lifestyle, daily diet intake, exercise, living condition, social lifestyle
• Blood tests
• Urine tests
• Immunisations
• Hearing tests
• Listen to the heart and lungs
• Check that all body parts are working well and no abnormalities are detected

The clinic has a system in place for the follow-up and review of tests and results. Clients are contacted for recall via telephone, letter or home visit by a nurse, health worker and/or other Gurriny team member.

The doctor may introduce a treatment plan (if there are any problems) and will refer the client onto specialist services.

Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service staff promote both adult, youth and child health checks through existing programs/clinics and community events throughout the year.
