Nambucca Council has an approximate area of 1,500 km².

It is comprised of 31 suburbs including Argents Hill, Bakers Creek, Bowraville, Buckra Bendinni, Burrapine, Congarinni, Congarinni North, Donnellyville, Eungai Creek, Eungai Rail, Girralong, Gumma, Hyland Park, Killiekrankie, Macksville, Nambucca Heads, Newee Creek, North Macksville, South Arm, Talarm, Tamban, Taylors Arm, Tewinga, Thumb Creek and Upper Taylors Arm plus parts of another 2 suburbs.

It is comprised of the localities of Allgomera and Missabotti plus parts of Brinerville.

It is surrounded by the councils of Armidale Regional, Bellingen Shire and Kempsey.

It is within the state electorate of Oxley.

It is within the federal electorate of Cowper.
