Through our community garden, we aim to:

  • Provide access to healthy activity for residents of diverse ages and mobility
  • Enhance the health potential of residents through enhancement of their natural environment
  • Increase the social capital of Fitzgibbon Chase by enabling connections among neighbours
  • Encourage volunteering
  • Mentor development of communal skills
  • Engage in shared activities with other Fitzgibbon Chase groups such as Neighbourhood Watch
  • Build networks beyond Fitzgibbon with relevant community groups
  • Increase access to healthy food for participants
  • Increase awareness of previously unfamiliar foods
  • Decrease food costs for participants
  • Increase environmental awareness
  • Provide education settings to teach healthy eating habits and related issues
  • Share cooking tips using the produce of the garden
  • Provide educational opportunities about bush tucker gardening for residents and pupils/ students of local schools
  • Increase awareness of communal responsibilities through adherence to Health and Safety requirements and garden guidelines.
